Imagine Being Magically Whisked Away to...Delaware.

"Hi. I'm in...Delaware."

Wayne Campbell was on to something.

The "First State" may be nondescript.

A mystery to some.

A pair of I-95 rest stops on the way to a sexier destination like...anywhere but New Jersey or Delaware. Or Mississippi for that matter.

Vexing to many; made all the more confusing that Delaware's state university selected a blue fowl as its mascot in 1939.

Then again, unlike a "Scarlet Knight," it's a real thing. A blue strain of the American gamecock. And years ago we were the equally lame Chanticleers -- fighting roosters.

And, of course, home to Papa Joe.

So let's be fair.

Delaware has its benefits beyond serving as the next Rutgers Football opponent.

Kickoff of Saturday's Game 3 for the 2-0 Scarlet Knights is 3:30 p.m.

Let's meet up at Wal-Mart for the carpool at, say, 11-11:30 a.m.? (Solidify a time in the comments).

The forecast is shaping up nicely as of Wednesday night after some rain expected Thursday and Friday; but anyone with a canopy please bring just in case, if for no other reason than giving us some shade, too, if it ends up being sunny and mid-80s as projected.

As I've got 7 lbs. of sliced London broil for cheesesteak in the freezer and plan to buy more to accommodate an increase in expected visitors, I recommend we go with that as the main course.

I'll also prep a big tray of home fries. And peppers and onions for the steaks.

Kathy's friends Janet and Tom are bringing caesar salad with chicken.

So let's use the comment field to fill out the food and beverage selection.

And let's show Kathy's fellow U-Del alums a good time. We'll be joined by the aforementioned Hoffmans and their big-ass Suburban, plus Sharon and Rob of the Westfield Daniel clan.

Assorted others may stop by, including Kaitlyn and her roommates, hopefully with sunscreen this time.

Let the discussion commence...and see y'all Saturday!

  2. I vote for 11am at Walmart since the weather looks good and we should relish the 3:30 start. Witkowski party will consist of 6 people: Sharon & me, Adam & his girlfriend Sophia, Julia & her boyfriend Rashad. I have 6 extra tickets and 2 extra black lot parking passes courtesy of my niece Lauren & her husband Rob due to Rob & friends attending a bachelor party. These are mobile tickets in section 131. Since I have a party of 6, we'll use those mobile tickets and one of the extra parking passes (in addition to my regular parking pass). This means that my 4 physical tickets in our section 121 are available. Bill, I'll give you first dibs so let me know if you need 2 or all 4. I'm retaining the 2nd additional mobile parking pass in the event Larry wants to use it so he has flexibility to leave the game early.

I will bring plenty of Miller Lite, Yuengling, and High Noon hard seltzers. I may also bring a surprise craft beer -- no, not Heady Topper, but something almost as intriguing. And I will bring paper plates, utensils, paper towels, aluminum foil, disposable serving spoons, and garbage bags.

  4. Tom & I will be there representing UD. We'll be at Walmart (Centennial Ave location, correct?) by 11:30. Bringing chicken caesar & beer & bourbon for Bill to drown his sorrows after the Blue Hens put up a big win. Will also to make some chocolate chip bars for dessert and for Kaitlyn to take back to her apartment.

  5. Oops just saw that meeting time is at 11 am (not 11:30) - see you at Walmart then.

  6. I am very likely to attend, but it all depends on how my Mom feels on Saturday morning. I will not make the early kick off time for the tailgate, but hope to get to the tailgate around 130. I will be using the parking pass provided by Pete. I will kick some money toward bills expenditures for the tailgate. BREP

  7. Dave, Jen, David & Jason will be at WalMart at 11am. We'll need to leave the game around halftime- Jason has a game over in North Plainfield Saturday evening. Cheesesteaks sound good (David will opt out). Water, soda, & snacks. Let me know if you think of something else I can bring.

  11. Hi guys. Hopefully I’m in. A couple of people due but I’m hoping to be there.

  12. Eric and I are in. Eric’s brother Dave and his family will meet us in the black lot to tailgate, but only 2 will eat cheesesteaks. So Bill, count us as 4 for cheesesteaks. We will bring dessert, maybe cupcakes.

  13. Two things.

I have 3 paper parking passes. Me and Kathy can carpool in with the Hoffmans. The other 2 can go to Burk and Dana for the other 8 meeting us at 11.

Regarding tailgate breakdown, we could use a volunteer to take all the tailgate stuff after Saturday's tailgate to have for the OSU game in 2 weeks as I won't be there.

  14. Re: parking passes, we have two between 6 of us which means the young folks (Adam, Sophia, Julia & Rashad) will use one pass and go in Adam’s car while it will just be me and Sharon in her car so we can fit up to 3 people in our second row if needed.

  16. Our neighbor Bob Kenny (aka Lawyer Bob, aka Retired General Bob) is flying solo tomorrow so will join our tailgate and kick in $ for cheese steaks if that's okay. He will also have extra tickets so I think we're flush.

  17. Also, another neighbor of mine raises Easter Egger chickens which produce different colored eggs, occasionally blue, so I'll see if I can bring a couple blue eggs for the Blue Hens.
