Rutgers vs. the College Park Stans

First, may everyone have a relaxing and blessed Thanksgiving!

A .500 record and potential bowl bid are on the line in Piscataway at noon on Saturday as the Scarlet Knights battle the equally offensively challenged Maryland Twerps.

Will the real Maryland Stan,
Please stand up.
Please stand up.
Stan from College Park arrived in Tinton Falls on Monday night and allegedly will be in attendance on the Skurat ticket. Kathy and Kaitlyn are in for the time being but we'll see.

It looks like a half-decent weather day but obviously cool, with a high in the low-40s.

I'm indifferent to cuisine (continental seems fine, or premade stuff to simply warm) and at this point suggest a 9 a.m. Walmart meetup.

Pleae use the comments below for roll call and to share thoughts on fine dining and meetup for the finale.

  1. I vote for continental, or at least I won't have time to make anything which requires heating. FYI that I hold 3 of the 5 parking passes but I don't have time to meet anyone between now and Friday to hand-off passes for those who might be looking to skip the tailgate and just attend the game.

It will just be me and my friend/neighbor Glenn so 2 of my regular tickets are available, plus I have 2 mobile tickets in the 3rd row of section 120A (corner of end zone nearest our seats). I'm holding 1 of the mobile tickets for Larry who might attend and if so, he plans to park in a pay lot and take the shuttle directly to the stadium. But this means that I also have Larry's physical ticket available if someone needs it.

  2. Stan must pay (for his ticket)

  3. Stan must pay ( for his own parking)

  4. What about a breakfast tailgate? If no one wants to cook it’s easy enough to do bagels/pastries. And/or we could just do eggs and bacon on the grill? Eric, me and Basil will be there so we’ll need to use one of the parking passes that Pete has. The LaBue’s gave us their tickets and all 5 will be used by friends that will be joining us and will use their parking pass. Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Eric told me that he's using Dave's parking pass and will need another one in addition to that for his group.

  6. Just to correct Larry and avoid any parking pass drama, as I wrote above, the LaBues kindly gave us their 5 tickets and parking pass; the parking pass to be used by the 5 people using the tickets. Eric, Basil and I need to get access to the game using one of the 3 passes Pete has, as we have done so far this season.

    1. Please note that for future reference, your two tickets do not entitle you to a pass for every game. The drama is just beginning (See below for proposed changes). I’ve been really accommodating about not requesting a pass in the past, and willing to drive over with others for over a dozen years. That BS is over now. (Edited for content)

    1. Dena, Pete has my actual game that you can use for one of the six. Pete is forwarding me a digital ticket that I may or may not use.

    2. Too bad you both won't be able to bring your family's in on the parking passes, but it looks like they've already been allotted to others. There is $25 parking over on the other side of the medical school on past the golf course.

  8. Since I have 3 extra physical tickets (my 2 + Larry's 1) Dana can have two. That still leaves 1 physical ticket and 1 mobile ticket unclaimed.

Regarding parking passes, I think we're fine as long as everyone is at Walmart by 9am so we can divvy everything up. Bill has a pass which covers his group. Eric and Andrea's friends have the Labue's 5 tickets and parking pass. I will use one pass but it will just be me and Glenn in my car so I can fit 3 additional people. That still leaves 2 additional passes which can be used by Andrea, Eric, Basil, Dana, JC + 4 kids = 9. We good?

  9. Next year I propose the parking passes be distributed more equitably. Dave, Pete's group, and Bill each have their own dedicated parking pass. The remaining three pairs of people (JC/Dana, A & E, and Basil/BREP) spilt the remaining passes up before the season. Each pair will get a minimum of four passes when we have six home games, and we'll have to figure out a way to handle the other stray game. This way you control your own destiny. You have a pass for four games, and for the other two games you can hitch a ride with someone else, or use a pay lot. It seems really equitable, and the only fair way I can think of splitting them up. Thoughts?

  10. In the year we have seven home games, we will have to figure out how to split up the two passes among the three groups for the one extra week. We can look over the schedule before it comes out and have all the passes distributed at, or even before the first game. Passes for specific dates can be traded amongst groups as the season goes on as well. The more I think it over, the more I like it. you give up control of a pass for two weeks to have control for the other four. It allows the bearer of the pass to make their own schedule if they want to come later, leave early for poker, leave because its too cold, they don't feel well, etc. It also gives Dana greater flexibility in case of an emergency.

  11. I also would like to propose that a parking pass should be offered to the group first before any outsiders are given tickets, regardless of the number of tickets attached. In the past I was told a few times this was what we were supposed to do so that members of the group had a first shot at a parking pass, even if it meant paying for it. This needs to be clarified for the future. Thoughts?

  12. JC has claimed one of my extra tickets so at this point there is one more available. I can use my 2nd mobile ticket to gain entry so Larry's/my last physical ticket is still available. If someone claims this last ticket, I would just like to claim a seat in our area if it's full, meaning 2 people may need to sit in the mobile ticket seats in section 120A, although I doubt this will be necessary.

  13. I will bring an assortment of Dunkin Donuts to the game, along with some Miller Lite, but no Yuengling, so BYOB if you don't want to be with me when I finally win Miller Lite tailgater of the year.

    1. To clarify, since I'm going to Dunkin Donuts, I will pick-up 2 dozen donuts and a Box O' Joe. I will also bring coffee cups, sugar/splenda, milk, and 1/2 & 1/2.

  14. I’ll do bagels and various bagel accoutrements. Zieg heil

  15. Eric, Basil and Andrea, if interested in hot breakfasts let me know and I'll bring all the tools and cleaning stuff but ask that you do the buying and grilling. It's a full and long workday for me so I'm short on time. It's no problem packing up the car as usual with all the stuff.

Otherwise thanks Pete for covering the coffee and donuts and Dana the bagels and spreads. So it's not a full carbo overload I'll bring breakfast bourbon and stuff for Bloody Marys and some OJ.

Regarding parking, Larry if you need one I'll drop it in your mailbox tomorrow morning on the way up and can hop in Pete's car with my crew.

Regarding next year and considering how onerous things have gotten I'm going to touch base with the ticket rep after the season and have everyone contact him and arrange their own season tickets and parking. It may give us a shot to not have to deal with sharing passes in years ahead, and I'm sure we can arrange to keep the same seats. It's not like there aren't 20,000 regularly available ones anyway. Figuring RU will work with us.

    See y'all tomorrow!

    1. Keep the parking pass for tomorrow Bill. You will need it to bring the grill. As per Pete’s post you will need it for everyone to get in the game. I’m not sure I’ll go depending on how my Mom feels when she gets up tomorrow morning. Thanks for trying to address the issues with the parking passes. It’s been a problem for too long not to be addressed. I’m sorry if I upset anyone with my frankness, but I had to speak up. It really what was needed to get it addressed as it it always a “we will handle it next year issue”.

    2. No problem. Agreed, and I've reached the point of fatigue managing all the tickets so I'll get the ball rolling with the ticket office for everyone to open their own ticket accounts.

    3. Dana offered me a yellow pass, but I’ll be getting there too late to use it. I think he’s going to park over there as long as he can drop off his stuff into the other cars at the Walmart meet up point. Pete is going to send me the second digital ticket he has, so it looks like everyone has a seat accounted for.

    4. One other thing - Please make sure my priority points account is not associated with the group account anymore.

  16. Thanks Bill for offering to bring the grill and yes, we’ll take care of getting eggs, bacon and hash browns and can do the cooking too.

  18. Sounds like a fantastic talilgate. I picked up lox cream cheese butter and chicken salad as well as treehouse pretentious beer and beach alcoholic ciders. I can give someone my stuff and walk too if necessary. Can’t wait to see you all !

  19. Baz asks....

Bill, It sounds like you'll probably have the plates, utensils, paper products .. if not let me know.
Do we need a soda cooler and ice? (The Labue's nice fully stocked "BAD-NFL-THEMED" soda cooler is not coming this week). I can do soda, but someone needs to fit it in their ride.

    1. Hey Baz,
I'll be bringing plates, utensils and paper towels, although I imagine Bill may bring them too. Either way we should be good.

Re: soda cooler, I should have room in my trunk for one extra cooler as long as it's not too big, so it would be great if you could bring a cooler of soda and ice. I'll also toss some waters into my Miller Lite cooler.

    2. Baz says .... I bring soda .. the 40+ year old school Igloo cooler isn't bulky and holds 24 cans max.
I also got the hash brown patties Eric wanted.

  20. Since it’s going to be a chilly morning, we’ll also bring an igloo of hot water and hot chocolate. Maybe some peppermint schnapps too ; ) That way the non-coffee drinkers and kiddos have something warm to drink
