If nothing else, Rutgers 56-10 pulvarization at the hands of Oregon made for much quicker exits for us after a phenomenal Oktoberfest tailgate spearheaded by the Witkowskis.

Our core menu from Sebastian's Schnitzelhaus in Wrightstown was fantastic, from chicken schnitzel to perogis to red cabbage and spaetzel, complemented by BYO brats, potato pancakes and pretzels. Thanks again to Pete for handling the ordering, and kick in a few bucks to him next game if you haven't already.
Turnout was robust, including Oregon supporters and yet another "John," adding to confusion whenever the name was uttered.
BREP's theory about a supposed rainbow being a harbinger of great things for Rutgers quickly went out the window

But, again, no one can beat our tailgates, which may beg the question of why bother with the games?!
In a bit of a surprise, Rutgers shook off the Oregon loss and edged Purdue on the road, 27-24. That positions the Scarlet Knights still for a very outside shot at a bowl, with its current 4-4 record. Next up is a road game vs 5-3 Illinois at noon on November 1.
The Scarlet Knights are a 13-point underdog, but maybe miracles happen. Should one occur, Rutgers then hosts equally midling-to-subpar Maryland at a tailgate-favorable 2:30 p.m. on November 8.
That's our next black lot gathering.

Let's kickstart the menu conversation in the comments. I'll offer to make crabcake sliders with aioli (boujee mayo) again lest anyone object, and if keeping with Chesapeake-oriented foods, other ideas (of many) can include Chicken Maryland, pit beef or turkey, white potato pie, Berger cookies (ahem, Tom), fried chicken or grilled Old Bay wings, cream of crab soup, and other crabby themes.
After a great Oregon tailgate and Halloween party at the new Burk estate, we look forward to more shenanigans ahead next Saturday!

I know Chicken Maryland or some sort of fried chicken goes with the MD theme so if someone wants to do that then be my guest. Otherwise I’ll volunteer to make baked chicken thighs which are much easier and less messy but still very tasty.
ReplyDeleteI'm sending a pic to Bill to add here as a clue for what I'm making.

DeleteAnna is also doing a whole Bloody Mary(land) concoction
DeleteI can't put up a picture in comments but it's of Michael DeRisi of Mr. Dee's hot dog pushcart from back in the day in Slayerville. As a kid, Dana used to walk there from home to get a few chili cheese dogs, then play in the cemetary before getting a bar pie and a few Buds at Buddy's.
DeleteThis is JC. Dana and I are going to bring crab dip.
ReplyDeleteI’m bringing baked chicken thighs. Right now it’s only me so my 3 cushioned seats are available although I know there are extra tickets among the group. Also I have an extra black lot parking pass I’ll sell for $40 or post to Stubhub if no interest
ReplyDeleteThanks on the chicken. Shane may bring pita and tzatziki bullshit to replicate Marathon gyros
DeleteJen & I should be coming to the game. depends on tonight's soccer results and the schedule of the next game (Friday/Saturday). Should know for certain by Wednesday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteDana and I will be there. We will attempt the Old Bay wings

Dana please get there at 11am so you can greet the Burks as they arrive with the cheese, fruit and cracker platter
ReplyDeleteMy other 3 tickets have been given to Tom Cummings who is Glenn’s son Liam’s father-in-law. I believe Tom’s two sons will be accompanying him and they’ll be riding with Glenn who is itching to dominate in corn hole so he’ll be bringing his boards
ReplyDeleteI'll be there, bringing up Berger Cookies. If we need another side, please let me know.
ReplyDeleteSounds good and a side would be great, thanks!
