Alright, we had a great tailgate on Saturday and 60-10 drubbing of Norfolk State and coach Ron Mexico, but it's time to get down to B1G business!

Facing four of the top 8-9 teams in the nation later this season, it's imperative for RU to break our 0-4 record vs. the Hawkeyes, who've beaten us by a combined 93-17.
Iowa rolls into SHI* at 2-1 with wins vs. cupcakes Albany and UMass and another loss to Iowa State, and presumably confidence that it'll steamroll us once again with a beefy, run-heavy attack.
Speaking of beefy...one of the staple Iowa dishes is the Maid Rite, or "Loose Meat Sandwich."
Makes you want to relocate to Iowa, right?!
It's more or less a Sloppy Joe garnished with diced onion and pickle, so we can go that route?

A third is Steak de Burgo, which basically looks like grilled steak (yawn) with butter or cream sauce.
The first two might be easiest if prepped in advance, but with a proposed 4 p.m. meet time in the black lot for an 8 p.m. kickoff, steaks can be cooked on site.
If anyone feels compelled to handling either of the proposed Iowa mains, please comment.
For sides, grilled sweet corn on the cob is obvious and there's probably still NJ white corn around.
Key Iowa desserts are rhubarb pie, Scotcharoos (peanut butter + chocolate rice crispy treats), and Puppy Chow (some kind of Chex concoction covered in chocolate, PB, and powdered sugar). Any bakers?
Let's get the conversation going ahead of our fourth straight weekend home game, and go RU!
Other Iowa tidbits, for folks looking to restructure BREP's tailgate playlist...bands from Iowa: The Everly Brothers, Slipknot, Andy Williams, and Glen Miller. Slim pickings (not Pickens).
I already had my dish locked and loaded for quite a while, waiting on a later/night game to spring it.
ReplyDeleteA take on an old recipe of my mother's, I'm calling my "Firehouse" chicken casserole. I used to make it on fire dept meeting nights in another life.
Still have (more than) plenty of plates/bowls/utensils/garbage bags etc.. so no need for any worries of that bs again.
Is an awesome dish and am very familiar + eager to eat!
DeleteJohnny c and I will do the maid rite sandwiches with accoutrements. Recipe said fries /Mac and cheese go well as sides if anyone wants to help there !
Deleteawesome
DeleteI have an auxiliary crew coming Friday. I know they don't match but I am making Jamaican jerk rub wings...plenty for all. Dana makes a mean mac n cheese so we could bring that too.
ReplyDeletesounds good, Pat!
DeleteWe'll skip the pork tenderloins and steak, would be overkill based on what we have so far: Andy's Firehouse Chicken Casserole (delicious yet dense dish), Maid-Rite Sandwiches (Dana + JC), and Pat and Dana C's wings + mac and cheese.
ReplyDeleteAl and I will bring the bottled water, soda, and a rhubarb pie.
ReplyDeleteIt will be Al myself and Tom R (using Jen's ticket) for a total of 3
DeleteWe’ll just be returning from vacation so won’t have a chance to make or even buy something to bring so will contribute $ to those who are providing the bulk of the food. It will be me, Sharon, Adam and Dennisse.
ReplyDeleteHi—the Burk clan (3) will be there. How about some kind of appetizer, like cheese and crackers? We could also bring one dessert (being mindful we all want to limit sweets)
ReplyDeleteI"ll be there, what do we still need to bring?
ReplyDeleteThose wondering could read bills suggestions or google Iowa dedicated food / appy / dessert. Lots of awesome choices
ReplyDeleteNo corn 🌽 for Iowa ?
DeleteCorn hole
ReplyDeleteI was at ShopRite today, and the corn on the cob they had was limited and pretty crappy. It it might be hard to find decent corn this time of year.
ReplyDeleteJust me, no Jen this week (Ocean County HS Girls Tennis Tournament). Probably not rolling until 3:45, so expect to be there closer to 5. Dave
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear. You’ll miss the athletic director descending from on high
DeleteShane's making an apple crumble (short story is friend from orchard dumped 6 bags from orchard job on us), I'll search locally at farms for corn and handle that
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm Apple Crumble... HomerSimpsonDrool-dot-Gif
ReplyDeleteSandeep says food looks plentiful and very good American. Only Mac and cheese on side. Mumbai says salad 🥗 or corn 🌽
ReplyDeleteHi all! John Bemben and I will bring whatever is still needed. I was planning on bringing some sub sandwiches but it looks like you already have sandwiches. Do we still need a dessert or an appy? Any more drinks needed? We won’t get there until 5 or 5:30ish.
ReplyDeleteHi John. Thankyou. Just look above for suggestions. I think we’re good for dessert. I didn’t look specifically at Iowa apps but that might work. We could probs use something green too. Try to get there early !
DeleteOk thank you!
ReplyDeleteIt's Baz .. I got Jennifer and John and my tix to the game via Brian/Winnie Luper group purchase deal. I'm planning to go tailgate hopping, but I'll be by at some point.
