If Not for You Guys, Another Bye Week Would Be Fine

Well, much as Monday for most of us presents the grim realities of our returns to school, work and unfortunately the Booger McFarland-Joe Tessitore duo on MNF, it also gets the ball rolling toward Rutgers' third game of the season.

Boston College is in Piscataway for a noon kickoff. We're only a 7.5-point underdog. Not bad for a team that still can't pass for 50+ yards...in a game.

As always let's try and meet at the lot no later than 9 a.m. The forecast is glorious -- 80 and sunny.

Food-wise, let's get the discussion going.

I'll throw out a few Boston-themed ideas, namely the Kelly's Roast Beef (https://www.eater.com/2015/9/4/9239371/kellys-roast-beef-sandwich-massachusetts) or sirloin tips sandwich (popular at Fenway Park).

Otherwise, if folks is feelin' fancy, and someone has time to make clam chowder or lobster rolls for 20, have at it, LOL.

Either way, let's get the discussion rolling and hopefully give good vibes to RU football for win #2!

  1. Some have already expressed interest in a breakfast themed tailgate.

  2. Sure, totally do-able

I'm happy to pre-make and warm the Jersey tomato casseroles (tomato, pork roll, spinach, onion and egg, basically) I've done in the past. Home fries too...

Otherwise I'm happy to bring the grill and let others do the cooking if talking made-to-order eggs and such.

  3. Hey Bill, I'll make roasted seasoned potatoes so no need for you to do home fries.

  4. I like breakfast idea. I was going to suggest loaded tots but looks like we have potato item covered. I can bring some Dunkin Donuts or coffee if anyone prefers instead of beer at 9am?? Ah...forget the coffee...Beer and donuts.

  5. In terms of headcount, the Witkowski crew will expand to 8 for this game. In addition to my 4 tickets which will be used by me, Sharon, and our neighbors Bob and Mari Okner (she of the bourbon flask), I've inherited another 4 tickets (Sec. 124) + black lot parking pass from my other neighbor Lawyer Bob since he and his wife Kathy will be attending a wedding in the Lake George area. These 4 tickets and parking pass will be used by Adam, his girlfriend Jess, Adam's friend Liam (youngest son of our other neighbors Glenn and Donna) and Liam's girlfriend Sarah.

  6. I'll have our cooler of water and sodas. Jason & I will be bringing my dad along this week. We do have an extra ticket for the game (no David and Jen this week). Let me know what else we need.

  8. Is anyone else volunteering to bring hot breakfast food, especially those folks who said they prefer breakfast?

So far it looks like Bill is making breakfast casserole and I'm bringing roasted potatoes. I believe there was a rumor that the Burks are bringing sausage, as well as OJ. Anyone else?

On the cold side, my party will bring mini muffins, while Chris offered donuts and Tom mentioned bagels.

And of course I'll furnish Miller Lite. Plus I still have a couple Focal Bangers and Heady Toppers from Vermont. Just don't hand any to Adam unless he shows you his ID first.

  9. Sorry Pete, but we will now allow vocal banging of anyone at this tailgate, especially in a family environment at 9 a.m.

Wait, being told Focal Bangers may be a craft beer. Never mind.

  10. The Jersey Tomato Casseroles I'm making (2) are simple, and I'll make one with meat (pork roll) and the other without; begging the question of "what's the point" though I respect we have non-meat eaters among us. I'll also precook some pork roll at home to warm, mainly since Shane hates eggs.

Dave, if unclaimed I could use a ticket if Shane's buddy joins us; otherwise I'll just pick one up off the sidewalk on the way in.

  20. Oh well. I guess another noon start is to be expected given our record and the outlook for the remainder of the season.
