After careful consideration and reading through your mailbag suggestions, the editorial staff here at BrepNation.com decided to compile a list of the things we learned from last weeks tailgate/game:<div> 1. We learned that when ordering pre cooked food, ask for it heated and not warm.</div><div> 2. We also learned there are nice people in the RU community that will let you use their grill is you plead enough with them, and we owe them a bottle of champagne in two weeks. <div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVFyC4Rab5rxC1JFWgqh4v410zzA7o9nrhnuTKVwvgJ65GRb94BDNwlC5IMQLAwd6z0szCMNCjVCYBZ5OL8PEWxJTTlxY4A8UvdMmVcwIRvv6mAunu_E-YzG3P_VXZjNmu1-Ke4xgnro6QJ_e1IkUgt9-hvyqAHGoYxQrHZdUyjNvSmJ5HhwlzQEthDw/s320/IMG_3415.jpg" style="display: block; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: center;"></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZdJFMpd4xXbZhUq-gRe-HiTwgNIZT08gXCnFnPouHp2O1Ht2JN8VQA9wLPlv0UXMZK4EefyuGrU8f5w_YoI96Mea58dmu85C6L2GaHzKF1Vfi6jdynKhivL4-NeO9EKnJdSl7vMJMMrHdx7bg9JYstTKH0bZ3MDGyKQmNJ4mBpSF8MfK9IJQ7g6ukJc/s320/IMG_3425.jpg" style="display: inline; padding: 1em 0px; text-align: left;"><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="240" data-original-width="320" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilVFyC4Rab5rxC1JFWgqh4v410zzA7o9nrhnuTKVwvgJ65GRb94BDNwlC5IMQLAwd6z0szCMNCjVCYBZ5OL8PEWxJTTlxY4A8UvdMmVcwIRvv6mAunu_E-YzG3P_VXZjNmu1-Ke4xgnro6QJ_e1IkUgt9-hvyqAHGoYxQrHZdUyjNvSmJ5HhwlzQEthDw/w320-h240/IMG_3415.jpg" width="320" /></a><img alt="" border="0" data-original-height="320" data-original-width="240" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjPZdJFMpd4xXbZhUq-gRe-HiTwgNIZT08gXCnFnPouHp2O1Ht2JN8VQA9wLPlv0UXMZK4EefyuGrU8f5w_YoI96Mea58dmu85C6L2GaHzKF1Vfi6jdynKhivL4-NeO9EKnJdSl7vMJMMrHdx7bg9JYstTKH0bZ3MDGyKQmNJ4mBpSF8MfK9IJQ7g6ukJc/w240-h320/IMG_3425.jpg" style="text-align: left;" width="240" /></div><div>3. Tech Fighting Gobblers<p>After getting <i>very </i>lucky and avoiding inclement weather at Saturday's tailgate and workmanlike 36-7 win vs. Temple, we re-rally for this week's tilt vs. Virginia Tech.</p><p>Kickoff is at 3:30 p.m. and let's get the chat going on meeting times and what people are bringing.</p><p>I've got to split for a meeting, but will update with a more thorough recap either tonight or tomorrow, highlighting attendees and the strong menu, including Dana's pretzel bullshit. The good doctor's bourbon did make a fine combination with the Philly-based butterscotch crimpets provided by Erin's dad Andy.</p><p>Use comments below for rollcall and headcount. I bought 7 lbs. of turkey breast to smoke, and I sense people were on board with some gobbler. Maybe we can go with southern BBQ fare as sides, or Virginia ham if folks are insistent on the state name. Either way, would be great if we could just set up as sterno and warmers but I'm cool bringing the grill if needed.</p><p>Cheers!</p><p><br /></p>Bill Holobowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06267163445590752501noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7359482775524349264.post-44168621513914067862023-09-05T13:58:00.002-04:002023-09-05T13:58:36.132-04:00Rutgers Clobbers Northwestern, Preps To Crumble Temple<p>Sunday marked a rare exacta of winning the tailgate <i>AND </i>the game, with a convincing 24-3 victory for our beloved Scarlet Knights to get the 2023 season off on the right foot. </p><p>Rutgers made easy work of Northwestern as the Wildcats looked like they had <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/northwestern-football-hazing-included-naked-221003452.html" target="_blank">naked human carwashes</a> and Shrek claps more top of mind than how to stop RU's stingy defense. If you have 65 seconds, this <a href="https://qctimes.com/the-history-of-maid-rite/article_a5c5f160-e760-11df-b1b9-001cc4c03286.html" target="_blank">in-depth Quad-City Times expose</a> details the rich history of Iowa's staple cuisine.</div><div><br /></div><div><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://d2uur722ua7fvv.cloudfront.net/72b00b7e-d9ce-41b3-9501-5ea2ea6dbbcazoom.jpg" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="450" data-original-width="675" height="133" src="https://d2uur722ua7fvv.cloudfront.net/72b00b7e-d9ce-41b3-9501-5ea2ea6dbbcazoom.jpg" width="200" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>Dana seen here pretending<br />to know about medicine or<br />researching Iowa food</i></td></tr></tbody></table>I was taken aback at first when a very fit physician's suggestion was to eat "<a href="https://iowagirleats.com/you-know-youre-from-the-midwest/">loose meat</a>," but it's basically a sloppy joe variant, and Eric offered to bring a batch this Saturday if folks are up for it. We know from past experience Big E's recipe (maybe stolen from Andrea) is top-notch.</div><div><br /></div><div>On the opposite end of the spectrum (not to be confused with RU superfan "Spectrum"), Dana <i>also </i>suggested <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uB1qlNl8ZOk" target="_blank">Steak de Burgo</a>. Basically filet mignon or roast beef tenderloin slathered in minced garlic, butter and herbs. Very easy for grilling.</div><div><br /></div><div><b>Let's get the chatter going about Saturday's menu.</b> If people prefer to go in a different direction, offer a suggestion. Otherwise, the beef-oriented menu suggested by Dana sounds like a winner. I'm happy to procure and prep/grill the steaks but if someone else wants to that's cool too. </div><div><br /></div><div>Figure some kind of potato dish, corn on the cob and salad would be good on the side but, again, not entirely my show so speak up and state in the chat what you'd like to contribute as Rutgers apparently seeks its first B1G home win since 2017. Dana found this site with <a href="https://www.onlyinyourstate.com/iowa/11-iconic-foods-in-ia/" target="_blank">11 iconic Iowa foods</a>. Go figure.</div><div><br /></div><div>And oh, by the way, with 7 p.m. kickoff let's decide on a time; maybe 3:30 p.m.?</div><div><br /></div><div>Long-range outlook is favorable; 71 high during the afternoon, cooling as low as 51 degrees at night. (Thanks No 10. You will always be my favorite player for being great on and off the field.) My only comment is I think we have some really fun tailgates and games coming up and better days ahead. We’ve been through the lowest of lows in so many ways the last few years on and off the field, and yesterday was an example of how much fun ( and nerve wracking!) it can be on the way back up.</p><p>Since Bill will be away next week visiting Stan in College Park, and I will not be able to make an early tailgate, Please use this post to start a discussion about what time you guys want to meet up, where do you want to meet up if not the usual place, what sort of tailgate you want to have, who will bring what, and specifically who is actually going to the game. BREP</p><p>I also expect Stanhead, Davidhead, Sharonhead, Erichead, and the Panda to be there</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>BREPhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01674759579239837875noreply@blogger.com19tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7359482775524349264.post-69883862584059340302021-09-19T22:00:00.001-04:002021-09-19T22:00:19.904-04:00Enjoy 3-0After attending a beautiful memorial luncheon on a sunny Sunday for a dear friend we lost last July to ALS, I can't help but be reminded to appreciate each blessing and moment. <div><br /></div><div>Saturday was such an opportunity. <table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo-g4bqfSMK23SWWWqigVbOAZ3dzMqPQ_lVsEalH5Kpg9mqIzGyVk8vQxSfZPbSTPWmxFMUVrt_HDhKRsXG-QhQRt0qcDkW4xrmiJAr96WRDaXNgRLkuOWnX-ff4QMGJW_OZ00LkDML6E/s800/IMG_6969.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="600" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgo-g4bqfSMK23SWWWqigVbOAZ3dzMqPQ_lVsEalH5Kpg9mqIzGyVk8vQxSfZPbSTPWmxFMUVrt_HDhKRsXG-QhQRt0qcDkW4xrmiJAr96WRDaXNgRLkuOWnX-ff4QMGJW_OZ00LkDML6E/w150-h200/IMG_6969.jpg" width="150" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>Chef & Trusty Asst.</i></td></tr></tbody></table></div><div><br /></div><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOWznZL-Bj5EZkw_y-Do8D00ZcUQd_zfdfOB5LGVVeYt9qL6V-Cbsoq27BImrM4epkYf9beAw_gy-U78cDBXx7RQRVcoyRd3397t62saD1afSxUzkgfaIEDFITkLLjw3tyKhZn1DezVak/s3264/20210918_125600.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3264" data-original-width="2448" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOWznZL-Bj5EZkw_y-Do8D00ZcUQd_zfdfOB5LGVVeYt9qL6V-Cbsoq27BImrM4epkYf9beAw_gy-U78cDBXx7RQRVcoyRd3397t62saD1afSxUzkgfaIEDFITkLLjw3tyKhZn1DezVak/w150-h200/20210918_125600.jpg" width="150" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Blue-Egg Presentation</td></tr></tbody></table><div>For yours truly, it was <i>great </i>being back on campus and under center (the grill) to celebrate Rutgers football, our alma matter, and the friendships we've developed over time, both here <i>and </i>for our University of Delaware friends rounding out our 25-30 person tailgate. </div><div><br /></div><div>The weather couldn't have been much nicer, and the grub not bad. </div><div><br /></div><div>On the field, Rutgers took care of business against a game but lesser-caliber Delaware Blue Hens. </div><div><br /></div><div><table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8EeTL2L_5CehfGWl44Oe6V8DkQUjCy5gwBS9kgP6xB62Wm8Jisj7VmP-3m_byEFvm-vkM_yRGBDy7p98J5UrPwcSYgknKKYD3EuV5Pe4_Qj0dobmnc7XlGm5nI5z2ZnRK7YYxsYQeDbk/s640/IMG_3869.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="640" data-original-width="480" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8EeTL2L_5CehfGWl44Oe6V8DkQUjCy5gwBS9kgP6xB62Wm8Jisj7VmP-3m_byEFvm-vkM_yRGBDy7p98J5UrPwcSYgknKKYD3EuV5Pe4_Qj0dobmnc7XlGm5nI5z2ZnRK7YYxsYQeDbk/w150-h200/IMG_3869.jpg" width="150" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><i>"Cruisin'. text-align: center;"><a href="https://i.gifer.com/9N1Y.gif" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="243" data-original-width="325" height="299" src="https://i.gifer.com/9N1Y.gif" width="400" /></a></div>"Hi. I'm in...Delaware."<br /><p></p><p>Wayne Campbell was on to something. </p><p>The "First State" may be nondescript. </p><p>A mystery to some. </p><p>A pair of I-95 rest stops on the way to a sexier destination like...anywhere <i>but </i>New Jersey or Delaware. Or Mississippi for that matter.</p><p>Vexing to many; made all the more confusing that Delaware's state university selected a blue fowl as its mascot in 1939.</p><p>Then again, unlike a "Scarlet Knight," it's a real thing. A blue strain of the American gamecock. And years ago we were the equally lame Chanticleers -- fighting roosters.</p><p>And, of course, home to Papa Joe.</p><p>So let's be fair.</p><p>Delaware has its benefits beyond serving as the next Rutgers Football opponent. </p><p>Kickoff of Saturday's Game 3 for the 2-0 Scarlet Knights is 3:30 p.m.</p><p>Let's meet up at Wal-Mart for the carpool at, say, 11-11:30 a.m.? (<i>Solidify a time in the comments</i>).</p><p>The forecast is shaping up nicely as of Wednesday night after some rain expected Thursday and Friday; but anyone with a canopy please bring just in case, if for no other reason than giving us some shade, too, if it ends up being sunny and mid-80s as projected.</p><p>As I've got 7 lbs. of sliced London broil for cheesesteak in the freezer and plan to buy more to accommodate an increase in expected visitors, I recommend we go with that as the main course. </p><p>I'll also prep a big tray of home fries. And peppers and onions for the steaks.</p><p>Kathy's friends Janet and Tom are bringing caesar salad with chicken. </p><p>So let's use the comment field to fill out the food and beverage selection.</p><p>And let's show Kathy's fellow U-Del alums a good time. We'll be joined by the aforementioned Hoffmans and their big-ass Suburban, plus Sharon and Rob of the Westfield Daniel clan. </p><p>Assorted others may stop by, including Kaitlyn and her roommates, hopefully with sunscreen this time.</p><p>Let the discussion commence...and see y'all Saturday!</p><p><b>[Chef Hobo needs a sense of head count by Friday morning; <i>will update list by the minute</i>]</b></p><p></p><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>2: Bill & Kathy (parking pass)</li><li>1: Kaitlyn (+ roommates, other TBD)</li><li>2: Tom & Janet Hoffman</li><li>2; Sharon & Rob Daniel<br /></li><li>2: Pete & Sharon (e-tickets, parking pass)</li><li>2: Adam & Sophia (e-tickets, mobile parking pass)</li><li>2: Julia & Rashad (e-tickets)</li><li>6: Eric & Andrea + brother Dave's family</li><li>1: Larry (~1:30 p.m. ETA; mobile parking pass)</li><li>4: Team Labue (parking pass)</li><li>1: Basil</li><li>2: Dana</li></ul><div><b>OUT</b></div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Skurat</li><li>John</li><li>Tom</li></ul></div><p></p>Bill Holobowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06267163445590752501noreply@blogger.com32tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7359482775524349264.post-54699916981259262732021-09-02T12:12:00.001-04:002021-09-02T12:12:08.280-04:00Rutgers vs. Temple POSTPONED to Saturday<p>Please keep tabs of details on game info at <a href="https://scarletknights.com/" target="_blank">Rutgers' homepage</a>. <br /><br />If on Saturday as it sounds, I won't be there, and Chris uncertain as well. <br /><br />I'll make arrangements with Larry to drop off all the stuff with him, since I'll be in Saratoga tomorrow through Saturday night. <br /><br />I can either freeze the steak for next game, or give to Larry for you guys to enjoy assuming someone's going to grill. <br /><br />Use the comment field below for discussion.</p>Bill Holobowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06267163445590752501noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7359482775524349264.post-4250575293690621572021-08-31T09:17:00.001-04:002021-08-31T09:17:38.903-04:00Rutgers vs. Temple Roll Call<p>It looks like we <i>may </i>catch a break with the weather Thursday, assuming lingering hurricane effects clear after expected morning rain; so it's possible we'll be dry and with pleasant tailgate and game conditions vs. Temple. </p><p>But if anyone has a canopy, please pack it just in case. I only have one.</p><p>There's a few things I need to address; too many things to put in comments to the last post. Just confirm briefly in the comment field to this post. <br /><br /></p><h3 style="text-align: left;">Parking</h3><div><br />The ticket office only had 2 years to get things straight, but didn't for this year's opener. It might actually work to our benefit.</div><div><br /></div><div>We won't have hangtags for this week. Rest of the season we're OK. Just not on Thursday.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our ticket guy asked for 5 names to put on the list for entry to the black lot. </div><div><br /></div><div>As of now, I'm going to suggest the following drivers just meet at/near the tailgate spot rather than Walmart. We'll do our best to get the lower lot if it's open. Otherwise we may be at the mercy of the dolts working the lots. </div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Bill and Chris (2): Both in for game (solo) and tailgate; can carpool and set up camp</li><li>Pete and Sharon (2): tailgate + game</li><li>John and Dana: game only; working, arriving at kickoff</li><li>Dave + Family (4): tailgate + game</li><li>BREP (1): tailgate + game but leaving early</li><li>[<i>Basil meeting us from work for tailgate + game</i>]</li></ul><div>The only folks yet to respond to the prior blog are Eric and Andrea. If coming to Thursday's game, please advise and we'll figure out offline who they'll drive in with; it can be me and/or Pete and Sharon.<br /><br /></div><div>Tom, if I recall, will be at the game as he's up for the football draft too on Friday night. <br /><br /></div><h3 style="text-align: left;">Tailgate </h3></div><div><br />Seems the few folks to respond were OK with cheesesteaks. We'll provide for anywhere from 12-16, depending on Burks and Tom. Kaitlyn's likely to bring from 1-3 apartment mates. </div><div><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>Bill: Steak, rolls and onions plus condiments; grill, tailgate tools</li><li>Chris: Tater tot concoction</li><li>Pete and Larry: Beer; Lites and presumably Yuengling</li><li>Dave: All soft drinks; water, Pepsi...er, Coke products</li><li>Tom: Chips, munchies</li><li>Needs: Paper products, foils, etc. for the season. <i>I'll sift through what we have later but think it's primarily plastic utensils.</i><br /><br /></li></ul><h3 style="text-align: left;">Ticket Distribution and Kickoff</h3></div><div><br /></div><div>I'll pawn off everyone's paper tickets for the season and ask someone else to handle all parking passes, since I'm already out for Ohio State and Chris is only coming to half the games it sounds. Someone else can run point on that duty.</div><div><br /></div><div>For Thursday it looks like we'll have at least 3 extras (Bill, Pete's 2). I know Rutgers is pushing for a sellout but that's a clear reach on a worknight with a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.</div><div><br /></div><div>Let's cross our fingers the bad weather's gone by morning. Either way, it'll be great seeing most of you again as BREP Nation!</div>Bill Holobowskihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06267163445590752501noreply@blogger.com16
